TTS Fifth Wheel Boom Rebuild
Terminal Tractor Systems Inc. offers fleets an opportunity to extend tractor life and reduce operating costs. The TTS Fifth Wheel Boom Rebuild will refit and upgrade the boom and frame attachment on Autocar, Capacity and Ottawa tractors for superior performance and long life.
We begin by removing the entire fifth wheel and boom assembly from the tractor and securing it on special work stands. The boom assembly is checked for straightness and twist and repaired as needed. The old bushing sockets at the front of the boom are cut away or modified to accept a full width cross tube, precision machined for TTS embedded composite bushings with up to twice the load bearing area of the original bushings.
The TTS cross tube is inserted into the front of the boom, centered and squared in all directions.
It is then fully welded to the boom on both inside and outside.
A full width steel plate is fitted and welded from the cross tube back to the first crossmember of the boom structure, to square, reinforce and stress relieve the front of the boom. A keyhole shaped cutout centered in the steel plate provides an easy lifting point for installation and removal of the boom assembly. When the front of the boom is completed, all other welds and attachments are inspected and repaired or cut out and replaced as necessary. New TTS composite bushings are fitted into the ends of the cross tube.
The frame sockets are machined to correct diameter and concentricity and TTS composite bushings are installed in the frame sockets. Outer faces of the frame sockets are cleaned and machined to smooth flat faces. All components are painted to match the frame of the tractor. The boom assembly is reinstalled into the frame and the TTS floating pivot shaft is installed and secured with greasable sealed end caps at both ends. The cross tube and end caps are then pumped full of grease to assure adequate long term lubrication.
